The Washington State Conference of Mason Contractors (WSCMC) is a statewide association of mason contractors and affiliates.
The mission of the WSCMC is to develop and maintain programs which directly impact the productivity and profitability of our members.
WSCMC was notified today that we were awarded a $42,000 Safety and Health Investment Projects (SHIP) grant for a new employee orientation training series that is directed at preventing workplace injuries, illnesses to new employees. SHIP grants are given through Washington State Department of Labor and Industries. Finally L&I is giving money to our industry instead of us always giving it to them.
Legislative Update
Thank you to everyone who came to Olympia for the Day on the Hill.
As the first legislative deadline passed yesterday, SB6010 that would provide preferential treatment for timber and would disenfranchise masonry products died in committee. Any similar legislation would have to be amended into currently moving legislation in order to have additional movement on this issue during the remaining 40 days of session.
Representative Cary Condotta, Wenatchee, spoke at an AWB reception on Wednesday about a constituent, masonry contractor, who came into his office and shared her story about the number of people her company had been laid off since the recession began. Thank you, to Merry Sterling, Sterling Construction for making a point to visit with her legislator and
sharing concerns about the current state of employment and regulations that are effecting all of our membership.
Other legislation that died as of Thursday included HB 2797, Authorizing the legislative body of any county, by ordinance, to impose an excise tax upon the privilege of severing minerals from the land or waters within the county.
